This thing seems to get a lot of favs. And a lot of people saying "It's the best show ever". Yeah, well it's a pretty good show. And it encouraged people to be more experimental with cartoons. But... People seem to WORSHIP Ren and Stimpy, and sort of treat John K like the God of cartoons and animation. I'm sick and tired of seeing wannabe spumco artists, and people who gain inspiration only from John K's blog. It's as bad as anime artists who only draw anime.
Sure, Preston Blair was a great cartoonist, and I even own his book.. But John himself is completely cynical about anything made in the last 20 years. Yeah, okay. It's alright to be picky about animation. Yeah, okay, I use to read John's blog everyday. I use to look up to him. And still agree with some of his ideas. I'm sure you can see the inspiration in my work, that I'm trying to shake off.
All I'm trying to say is PEOPLE, you need to find other inspirations! Draw from life, go to the zoo, do life drawing. GET OUT THERE! DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE! find artists and animators who are currently SUCCESSFUL and employed (come on, who has actually enjoyed the cartoons John has made lately? In comparison to R&S). ALSO, don't start hating things just because John K does.
I want to end by saying Ren and Stimpy was a pretty great cartoon, but not all modern cartoons are shit and "not like they use to be!". Cartoons, yes, are a big part of my life - but I don't consider crappy modern cartoons the worst tragedy in the world.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
