Uh okay, so whenever anyone sees my character, riley.. they assume she's a he.. it's happened countless times and it kinda bugs me.

I mean, I guess it's like anything, cats, dogs.. like people when they see someone's dog and it sniffs their hand, and they react with "aww what a cute dog. what breed is HE?" or whatever. we live in a gender specific world, where a character like riley, and the attributes she possesses are considered masculine.. she isn't a pretty little thing that is "feminine", or whatever people consider that to be.

I actually think riley is an androgynous character, and does not necessarily fit into the norm of gender. for one, she's a fucking cartoon character that doesn't have any genitals. i refer to her as a girl, 1. to challenge people's perception of what they consider to be a female character. 2. because I imagine her being voiced by someone female. 3. because she did, at one point, use to be more feminine. hell, at one point the riley you know how now DID have long eyelashes, because people calling her a he bugged me so much. but then i decided that eyelashes on a female character bug the complete crap out of me, more so than people mistaking her gender.

and actually, lemurs are matriarchal animals so if we're talking traditional gender roles here, lemurs throw that out the window. anyway, it just pisses me off basically. whenever i see a dog in the street i don't usually assume it's a male... oh and TWEETY for god sake, if tweety could get away with being male and recognized as male, it shouldn't be so hard for at least one person to figure out riley isn't a dude. goddamnit.
